For the first time in many years, Melbourne Lotus Light Charity Society and Yen Ming Temple joined forces to participate in the annual charity donation event hosted by the Wyndham City Council in Melbourne. The event donated long-life food, personal care products, and other daily necessities to residents in need within the community, providing them with short-term emergency relief. On July 30, 2025, the winter sun bathed Melbourne's landscape with its generous warmth. Reverend Shi Lian Jie and Dharma Assistant Yue Hua from Lotus Light Charity and Yen Ming Temple led dozens of volunteer fellows, carrying the generosity of their sponsors, and delivered a vanload of donations to Featherbrook Community Center in Melbourne's western suburb. Thanks to the generous contributions of both money and effort, a large amount of donations was received, including a variety of food items, including rice, flour, canned goods, and biscuits; and daily necessities, including blankets, clothing, socks, and various toiletries. In the previously empty community hall, three full tables of supplies were piled high, a display of love. The community centre leader, filled with gratitude, excitedly stated, "This is the largest donation the community has ever received. This amount of supplies will help so many families in need." After unloading the supplies, the community centre leader posed for a photo with Reverend Shi Lian Jie, Dharma Assistant Yue Hua, and fellow volunteers. We can leverage the power of community networks to expand and enhance our social visibility, while also encouraging community participation in our religious, cultural, and charitable activities, achieving a win-win situation for both cultural preservation and community cohesion.
After the event, on the way home, a volunteer captured a photo of a rainbow of auspicious clouds, resembling Buddha’s light. The red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple hues shone brightly against the clear winter sky. This was a great blessing from Grand Master, the Buddha, and Bodhisattva to all the donors and fellow believers who supported this charitable activity.
