001 Question: I heard that during Master Lu’s deliverance ceremonies, one can see the deceased? – Excerpt from *The Collected Works of Living Buddha Sheng-Yen Lu*, Volume 304, “Questions and Answers Under the Pine Tree”

Master Lu’s Answer: From my youth, when I performed deliverance ceremonies for a dozen or so people, to today, with deliverance ceremonies for tens of thousands.

Many people have seen their ancestors and the deceased; quite a few have.

I cannot say that everyone can see them; a small number cannot.

Seeing or not seeing is entirely due to conditions.

For example: On August 31, 2024, at the Amitabha Buddha’s Bardo Deliverance Ceremony, Master Chang Ren led ten fellow disciples to participate. Six of the ten disciples saw, and four did not.

Why were they able to see?

The simple answer is: “They entered a state of enlightenment.” Not seeing means they were unable to enter that state.

This is the simplest answer. To answer this question seriously would require writing a book.

I was a key figure in the Bardo Deliverance Ceremony, sitting in the centre of the Dharma seat.

My hands formed the “Deliverance Mudra.”

I visualised: “The Buddhas and Bodhisattvas descend. The Dharma boat comes to receive the deceased.”

I chanted the “Delivrance Mantra and the Deity Mantra.”

I entered the “Samadhi of Meditation.”

I guided the deceased to sit on a lotus flower and be reborn in the Pure Land of Buddha.

May the deceased board the great Dharma boat and be reborn in the Pure Land of Buddha.

I also want to tell everyone that I practice the “Thousand Dharma Boats Bardo Deliverance” every day for many years. I liberate not only humans, but all living beings.

Large beings like dinosaurs and whales.

Small beings like insects and bacteria.

I liberate all.

I speak the truth; I dare not lie, there is absolutely no falsehood.

After each bardo deliverance ceremony, many people stand up to give their testimonies. Men, women, the elderly, and children are all present.

Sometimes, I say: Those who haven’t seen it may see it again after returning home; some may even see it in their dreams.

Many people have also written to testify.

Here is a letter: The Greatest Testimony August 31, 2024, was the “Amitabha Buddha Autumn Bardo Deliverance Dharma Assembly.” During the assembly, white light kept appearing before my eyes, and my mind was very peaceful. It was an extremely auspicious assembly, and also the second time in my life that I cried so bitterly.

After the assembly, Grand Master Lu compassionately asked, “Do you want to see your deceased parents and ancestors?” I immediately answered, “Yes.” I really wanted to see my deceased parents, so Grand Master guided us to quietly enter into meditation. Hearing Grand Master invoke Amitabha Buddha, Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Golden Mother of the Jade Pond, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, and many other deities including Vajras, Dakinis, and Dharma Protectors, when Grand Master recited “Namo 360 trillion 119,500 Amitabha Buddhas of the same name” for the second time, it was as if a large screen slowly opened before my eyes, and I sensed my parents beside me. Later, I saw many people wearing white clothes and pants, and soon I saw my parents in the crowd. My tears flowed uncontrollably, and I sobbed uncontrollably. I saw my parents board a very large ship, its deck paved with gold. My parents looked very young and energetic. I heard my father point at me and loudly say, “That’s my daughter! That’s my daughter!” (in Cantonese). He repeated it several times, as if afraid others wouldn’t understand, just like how he spoke to others when he was alive. At that moment, it felt like watching a very touching movie; I was deeply moved and cried my eyes out.

Finally, my vision slowly transformed into a sea of ​​light, incredibly bright. I heard Grand Master say, “Good!” and I emerged from meditation. Afterwards, Grand Master asked how many people present had seen their deceased relatives. Many stood up and recounted what they had seen. This experience is unforgettable. I am deeply grateful to the most compassionate and loving Grand Master Lu, for your miracles that have saved and benefited us.

The Origin, Achievements, and Vows of Grand Master Sheng-Yen Lu

Grand Master Lian Sheng, founder of the True Buddha School, was born as the White Mahapadmakumara from the Maha Twin Lotus Ponds in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, a reincarnation entrusted by Amitabha Buddha. Grand Master Lu is a truly accomplished tantric practitioner, having cultivated through various methods including Tantric practice, Yoga Tantra, and Highest Yoga Tantra, ultimately achieving unity with the Supreme Consciousness and entering the Ocean of Vairocana’s Nature. He has indeed accomplished the “Eight Outer Achievements” and the “Eight Inner Achievements.” Therefore, many Tibetan Living Buddhas and great masters of tantric Buddhism have returned to his tutelage. The number of disciples worldwide who have taken refuge in him is increasing daily.

Grand Master Lu, having attained enlightenment, has written over 300 spiritual works on Dharma transmission, which have been translated into Japanese, English, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Spanish, and many other languages. With a complete collection held in the Library of Congress in the United States, and praised by the Japanese publishing industry as “a contemporary Chinese sage,” Grand Master Lian-sheng is considered the foremost person in contemporary China to transmit the Dharma through writing. Grand Master Lian-sheng also transmits the Dharma through paintings, which have been compiled into 11+ books of spiritual paintings. Grand Master Lian-sheng gives teachings daily.

Grand Master Lian-sheng’s life in the United States is almost unchanging. He writes books in the morning, replies to letters in the afternoon, practices Dharma in the evening (praying for the well-being of all beings), and engages in meditative states (blessing and saving sentient beings). He is a wise teacher in all realms, infinitely diligent in everything he does for the Dharma and for sentient beings. As long as one practices the Dharma sincerely, the Living Buddha can enter the dreams of sentient beings to teach, bless, and save them… Only a truly accomplished practitioner possesses such miraculous powers; sentient beings should cherish him.
