In the winter of year 2020, my beloved sister suddenly fell seriously ill. Thus began five long years shadowed by relentless sickness. At its worst, she was confined to bed, unable to walk, relying on an oxygen machine to breathe every day. Panic, palpitations, chest tightness, and shortness of breath bound her like chains; arrhythmia and tachycardia were like hidden, turbulent undercurrents. Dizziness, tinnitus, sleepless nights, and loss of appetite became routine, while bodily pain and headaches intertwined into a daily reality. Even more heartbreaking was her deep melancholy—often weeping without cause or erupting in sudden anger, as if time itself had been stained a dreary grey by the dye of suffering. We sought medical help everywhere, trying all manner of treatments from both Western and Chinese medicine, yet a turning point remained elusive. Watching my sister suffer was agonising. Feeling helpless, I turned to Grand Master Lu for consultation. Grand Master compassionately advised: “Diligently recite the ‘High King Avalokiteshvara Sutra.’ The more, the better.” My sister followed Grand Master’s guidance faithfully, striving to recite it over ten thousand times. Yet, the affliction remained unmoved, solid as a boulder. Later, I realised why my sister had recited the sutra over ten thousand times yet experienced little spiritual resonance. This was because she often recited distractedly, failing to maintain focused and proper mindfulness. Although her health improved slightly after completing the ten thousand recitations, her condition still fluctuated frequently and never became completely stable.
Witnessing this, I went to Yen Ming temple to seek counsel from the Golden Mother of the Jade Pond. Her divine message was clear: “Recite three thousand sutras on her behalf.” Starting in October 2025, I recited dozens of sutras daily, wishing for the sound of the mantra to become a vessel to ferry my sister across the sea of illness. When I reached two thousand five hundred recitations, I sought guidance from Grand Master’s Dharma Body once more. It instructed: “Only two hundred remain. Complete them.” Last night, I devotedly dedicated the final two hundred recitations. This morning, I received an elated message from my sister: “I had an auspicious dream last night. I saw myself dressed beautifully, standing peacefully under a brilliant sun, basking in its warmth.” She had not smiled for so long; this dream was like sweet rain moistening a parched heart. My own eyes filled with tearful joy—for at the very moment the mantra was completed, an auspicious sign had manifested. By the time I had recited it for my sister up to two thousand times, her health had essentially recovered, with very few recurrences. This clearly demonstrates the distinct power of single-minded concentration and proper recitation in accordance with the Dharma.
As a True Buddha disciple, I deeply realise: before calamities, karma, and illness, the power of an ordinary person is truly minuscule. Only by relying on Buddha’s power can we genuinely transcend the sea of suffering. The Golden Mother of Yen Ming temple responds with compassionate efficacy, answering every sincere plea; the majestic power of Grand Master, the Buddhas and the merit of the ‘High King Sutra’ are truly inconceivable. I recall using a thousand recitations of the ‘True Buddha Sutra’ to protect my mother through a mortal crisis, forty-nine recitations of the ‘Ksitigarbha Sutra’ to extend a family member’s vitality, and now, nearly three thousand recitations of the ‘High King Sutra’ to bring the dawn of health to my loved sister. All of this is none other than the manifestation of the boundless blessings of Grand Master and the Buddha-Bodhisattvas.
The sound of the mantra is unceasing; the power of the vow is unbroken. With palms joined, I give thanks for the great compassionate liberation of Grand Mastser and all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. I am even more grateful to have encountered a true Master in this lifetime who transmits the sublime True Buddha Tantric Dharma. On this path, even amidst storms and thorns, there always shines an undying lamp, illuminating every crossing of hardship and every rebirth of life.
