On July 22, 2025, it was midwinter season in the southern hemisphere, and Melbourne was drizzling, but the cold weather did not stop the enthusiasm of Featherbrook community residents to seek Buddhism. On the afternoon of the same day, the committee members of Yen Ming Temple went to the Featherbrook Community Centre at the request of community residents and brought a public welfare Buddhist lecture on the theme of “Why should people learn Buddhism” to local residents. The lecture attracted dozens of audience, mainly elderly residents.
At the beginning of the lecture, Yen Ming Director Yuehua explained the importance and benefits of learning Buddhism in a graphic and textual form. Learning Buddhism is not only a belief, but also a practice of wisdom and a training of physical and mental health, which can help people find inner peace and direction in the turbulent world. The wisdom of the Buddha teaches us to know ourselves, be compassionate to others, and let go of attachments. Dhama Assistant Yuehua combined the pressure and confusion in modern life to explain the practical significance of Buddhism in a simple and easy-to-understand way. The audience listened attentively, and some residents took photos to record the key points on the screen.
Then, the secretary Dhama Sister Ann introduced the origin and characteristics of the True Buddha School (TBS), as well as the origin and achievements of TBS founder, Living Buddha Lian-sheng, and his supreme magical powers and aspirations to save the people. She also introduced the various services and activities of Yen Ming Temple, as well as various social media platforms. The introduction also specifically mentioned the efficacy of Yen Ming’s main deity, The Golden Pond Mother, in answering questions for sentient beings who came to the temple to seek answers about their lives.
Finally, the speaker ended the lecture with several real stories of the great salvation of Living Buddha Lian-sheng. The atmosphere of the lecture was warm, and the audience asked questions enthusiastically during the interactive session.
It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of the lecture, there was drizzling outside the window, and at the end of the event, the clouds and fog dissipated, and the sun filled the venue, as if echoing the brightness and joy in everyone’s hearts. After the meeting, the audience seemed to be still not satisfied, and continued to learn more from the temple volunteers. The volunteers of Yen Ming Temple not only brought many books to share with the audience at the venue, but also enthusiastically prepared delicious snacks for the participants.
Yen Ming Directors said that this community event is the beginning of the temple bringing Buddhism into the lives of community residents. In the future, it will continue to cooperate with the local community to spread the wisdom of Buddhism in a diversified way and provide spiritual care for the people.
Yen Ming Temple is open to the public all year round, regularly holds Dharma ceremonies, meditation classes and other courses, and welcomes people from all walks of life to visit and exchange.
